Sachin Apte is chief clinical officer of Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah and physician-in-chief of Huntsman Cancer Hospital.
His responsibilities span strategy, capacity management, quality and compliance, performance improvement, financial and resource management, and clinical program development. In collaboration with colleagues, Dr. Apte also guides the alignment and integration of the institute’s cancer-focused clinical, research, education and community outreach missions. Serving a large geographic footprint in the Mountain West, Huntsman Cancer Institute places particular focus on reducing distance as a barrier to cancer care for rural and frontier populations.
A board-certified gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Apte is also a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at University of Utah Health. He joined Huntsman Cancer Institute in 2021 from Moffitt Cancer Center, where he served as associate chief medical officer and previously as chair of the department of gynecologic oncology. Dr. Apte earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University and a medical degree from The Ohio State University.
He completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center while earning a master’s degree in cancer biology from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
He also holds an MBA from the University of Tennessee.
