Philip Louie is a spine surgeon specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, where he serves as medical director of research and academics for the Center for Neurosciences and Spine. He will be heading to the University of Washington this fall.
Dr. Louie received his bachelor’s degree in business administration and his medical degree from the University of Washington. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Rush University Medical Center with Midwest Orthopaedics, followed by a spine surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City before returning home to Seattle in 2020.
He is currently attending The Wharton School for his executive MBA.
Dr. Louie has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and five textbooks, along with numerous abstracts and book chapters, and he regularly presents research at national and international conferences.
His work centers on what he calls the four E’s of spine care: ergonomics, economics, education and enabling technologies.
