Peter McCanna serves as CEO of Baylor Scott & White Health, the largest not-for-profit health system in Texas and one of the most expansive integrated healthcare networks in the United States. Headquartered in Dallas, Baylor Scott & White operates 55 hospitals, more than 1,300 access points, a health plan, a research institute, and MyBSWHealth, a leading digital health platform serving more than 3 million connected customers across the Lone Star State.
Mr. McCanna became CEO of Baylor Scott & White in January 2022 after serving as the system’s President since 2017. Under his leadership, Baylor Scott & White has undergone a significant customer-centric transformation — prioritizing digital-first healthcare access, personalized care experiences, and expanded academic affiliations to meet the growing healthcare demands of communities across Dallas, Fort Worth, Temple, and markets throughout Texas. The system posted nearly $1 billion in operating income in 2024, with a nearly 8% operating margin.
Mr. McCanna brings nearly 40 years of healthcare management experience to his role and serves as inaugural board chairman of Longitude Health, an innovative healthcare collaborative. He previously served as executive vice president and COO at Northwestern Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, and as CFO of Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He holds a master’s degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.
