Omar B. Lateef, DO, serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Rush University System for Health and Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized academic medical center and health system located on Chicago’s Near West Side.

Rush University Medical Center has earned a place on the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Honor Roll for six consecutive years and has been ranked by Vizient among the top 10 academic medical centers in the nation for quality and accountability for 13 consecutive years. Dr. Lateef was appointed President and CEO of Rush University Medical Center in May 2019 and assumed the system-wide CEO role in July 2022.

A pulmonologist and critical care specialist who joined Rush as a fellow in 2005, Dr. Lateef is a nationally recognized voice on healthcare quality measurement, health equity, and community health strategy. Rush’s innovative health equity initiatives — featured in the Harvard Business Review, Time magazine, and the MIT Sloan Management Review — have garnered national attention for addressing life expectancy disparities across Chicago’s West Side communities.
