Nabile Safdar, MD, is chief AI officer at Emory Healthcare and Emory University in Atlanta, where he leads artificial intelligence governance, portfolio management, and performance evaluation across clinical, operational and patient-facing use cases. A radiologist by training, he is also an endowed professor and vice chair of informatics in the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at the Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Safdar previously served as associate chief medical information officer for Emory Healthcare and as vice chair of imaging informatics, and he directs Emory’s imaging informatics fellowship. He earned his medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and a master’s degree in public health from the University of Maryland, where he also completed his diagnostic radiology residency.
He is a Fellow of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine and serves on its board of directors, and he is faculty for the Radiological Society of North America’s imaging AI certificate program. He co-authored a multisociety recommended syllabus for teaching artificial intelligence in radiology. His work focuses on AI in medical imaging, clinical informatics, and the ethical and responsible use of AI in healthcare. His leadership bridges front-line clinical practice and enterprise AI strategy.
