Michael Hasselberg, PhD

Chief Transformation and Digital Officer Nebraska Medicine

Michael Hasselberg, PhD, is the inaugural chief transformation and digital officer at Nebraska (Omaha) Medicine, a role he assumed in 2025 to lead the system’s digital strategy and operational transformation.

A psychiatric nurse practitioner, professor and data scientist, Dr. Hasselberg holds a doctorate and credentials as a registered nurse and board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. He built his career at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medicine, where he began as a nursing assistant and advanced to become the system’s chief digital health officer. There he co-directed the UR Health Lab, the system’s digital innovation incubator, and led initiatives that expanded access to behavioral health and telemedicine.

At Nebraska Medicine, Dr. Hasselberg has overseen the development and deployment of a portfolio of in-house generative AI tools designed to support clinicians and improve operations. He speaks frequently on how modern foundation models have lowered the barrier for health systems to build their own innovation capabilities, offering a perspective shaped by clinical practice as well as research and informatics. Recognized for translating frontline care experience into practical digital solutions, his leadership reflects a belief that innovation should be measured by its impact on patients and care teams.
