Mr. Kevin B. Mahoney, DBA, serves as Chief Executive Officer of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, the clinical backbone of Penn Medicine — one of the nation’s oldest and most distinguished academic medical centers, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The University of Pennsylvania Health System encompasses six hospitals, 11 multispecialty centers, and hundreds of outpatient facilities across Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, supported by a workforce of nearly 50,000 employees.
Mr. Mahoney assumed the CEO role in July 2019 following a nearly 25-year tenure at Penn Medicine, during which he held leadership positions including Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of the Health System and Executive Vice Dean of the Perelman School of Medicine. Under his leadership, Penn Medicine has sustained its standing as one of the premier academic health systems in the United States, with top national rankings across oncology, neurology, cardiology, and other specialty areas.
Recognized by the American College of Healthcare Executives as a distinguished leader, Mr. Mahoney has contributed perspectives on health equity, access to quality care, and social justice to the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA. He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration and an MBA from Temple University’s Fox School of Business.
