Kevin B. Churchwell, MD, is president and CEO of Boston Children’s Hospital, one of the top-ranked pediatric hospitals in the nation and the primary pediatric teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School.
He became CEO in 2021, having joined Boston Children’s in 2013 as executive vice president of health affairs and COO. Earlier in his career, he served as CEO of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Delaware and CEO of the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, completing his pediatric residency and a fellowship in pediatric critical care at Boston Children’s. He holds an endowed professorship of anesthesia at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Churchwell has led the hospital’s drive to become a high-reliability organization focused on eliminating avoidable harm. As a nationally recognized advocate for health equity, he founded its Office of Health Equity and Inclusion and helped establish a related institute. He serves on numerous boards, including the Whitehead Institute and the Massachusetts Business Roundtable. A widely respected physician-leader advancing pediatric care, safety and equity, he brings a deep commitment to children’s health and to the communities the hospital serves.
