Julian Kim, MD

President Prisma Health Cancer Institute

Julian Kim is president of Prisma Health Cancer Institute, the largest cancer program in South Carolina.

Named to the role in 2023, he leads the growth and strategy of a program spanning 11 cancer clinic sites across the state, with more than 300 active clinical trials and approximately 8,000 patients treated annually. The institute’s clinical services include surgical oncology and robotic surgery, bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy, and gynecologic, medical, radiation and pediatric oncology. Dr. Kim is a board-certified, fellowship-trained surgical oncologist with more than 25 years of experience treating cancers of the breast and skin, including melanoma, as well as soft tissue sarcomas.

He joined Prisma Health in 2018 as senior medical director of oncology services in the Midlands and later also served as chair of the department of surgery at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Dr. Kim has spent his entire career at NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers, including The Ohio State University, where he completed his surgical oncology fellowship, and Cleveland Clinic. At University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland, he served as the inaugural chief medical officer and chief of surgical oncology, and he held the Charles Hubay professorship at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

A physician-scientist, he led research that developed an activated T-cell therapy for advanced melanoma and advanced it into clinical trials. Dr. Kim is focused on bringing high-quality cancer care closer to patients across South Carolina.
