Joshua Plauny is the associate vice president of supply chain at VCU Health, where he leads the system’s supply chain strategy and clinically integrated sourcing operations.
His path to healthcare leadership began in the U.S. Marine Corps, which he joined directly out of high school and where he specialized in supply logistics, earning a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal before an honorable discharge. He joined VCU Health in 2001 and advanced through roles of increasing responsibility over more than two decades, including director of perioperative surgical services and senior director of supply chain before assuming his current role.
In perioperative services he managed operating and capital budgets, oversaw operating room scheduling and led a major perioperative renovation project, experience that informs his emphasis on aligning supply chain with clinical priorities.
Under his leadership the VCU Health supply chain team was recognized with a 2023 GHX award for elevating the clinically integrated supply chain, work tied to a more standardized surgical supply chain and several million dollars in savings.
He holds a master of health administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and was profiled as a “Future Leader of Supply Chain” by The Journal of Healthcare Contracting. His background spans finance, operations and logistics, giving him a cross-functional perspective on healthcare cost management and resilience.
