John Couris

President & Chief Executive Officer, Florida Health Sciences Center Tampa General Hospital

John Couris serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Florida Health Sciences Center, the enterprise organization encompassing Tampa General Hospital, one of Florida’s premier academic health systems. Located in downtown Tampa, Florida, Tampa General Hospital is an academic medical center and the primary teaching hospital for the University of South Florida Health Morsani College of Medicine. Under Mr. Couris’s leadership, the system has expanded to more than 150 care locations statewide and grown to approximately 15,000 team members and providers.

Mr. Couris has positioned Tampa General as a nationally recognized destination for complex and specialty care, earning recognition from U.S. News & World Report as the No. 1 hospital in Tampa Bay and No. 2 in Florida. He has driven major initiatives including a landmark partnership with Palantir for AI-powered care coordination, the development of the Tampa Medical and Research District, and the creation of TGH at Home, Florida’s leading hospital-at-home program.

Named to the Tampa Bay Business Journal‘s Power 100 list for five consecutive years, Dr. Couris was also appointed by the White House to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Advisory Council on Alzheimer’s Research, Care, and Services. He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of South Florida.
