Erica Taylor is a board-certified orthopaedic hand and upper extremity surgeon at Duke Health and serves as vice president of health equity for Duke Health Integrated Practice.
She is also vice chair for culture, engagement and impact within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Taylor’s clinical practice includes hand, wrist, forearm and elbow injuries, trauma, arthritis, overuse conditions, and sports-related injuries.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Virginia and her medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine. She completed orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia, including a year of tissue engineering research, followed by fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Taylor joined the Duke faculty in 2013 and earned her MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business in 2020, where she now holds an executive faculty appointment.
She is the founder of the Orthopaedic Diversity Leadership Consortium, which develops leaders and practical solutions at the intersection of access, quality, culture, belonging, value-driven care and healthcare performance. She is also founder and senior principal consultant of Dynamize Health, a healthcare strategy and leadership firm focused on helping organizations translate complex challenges into actionable strategy and sustainable change.
Dr. Taylor serves as hand and wrist section editor for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ OrthoInfo editorial board. She is a recipient of the AAOS Impact Award, a national honor recognizing exceptional leadership in reducing barriers to entering the orthopaedic field.
