David Ryan, MD, is president of the Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, a role he has held since 2025.
He previously served as physician-in-chief of the institute and as chief of hematology/oncology and clinical director of the Mass General Cancer Center. Dr. Ryan has built his career around the treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies, with particular expertise in designing and conducting clinical trials for patients with gastrointestinal cancers. He is the Shelby Memorial Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
His work has earned him appointments to national committees, including clinical task forces for the National Cancer Institute, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Ryan earned his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
He completed a residency in internal medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and a fellowship in hematology-oncology at the combined Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute program. He has published more than 100 articles across peer-reviewed journals, reviews, book chapters, and editorials.
