Craig Della Valle is chief of the section of adult reconstruction at Rush University Medical Center, where he holds the Aaron G. Rosenberg Endowed Professorship of Orthopaedic Surgery.
His clinical practice focuses on primary and revision total joint arthroplasty, and he has performed more than 13,000 hip and knee replacements over the course of his career. Dr. Della Valle is also a prolific researcher, with more than 300 peer-reviewed publications spanning unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, primary and revision total knee and hip arthroplasty, and hip resurfacing.
He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at NYU’s Hospital for Joint Diseases, including a year devoted to clinical and basic science research in adult reconstructive surgery, and went on to an adult reconstruction fellowship at Rush University Medical Center and Central DuPage Hospital.
Dr. Della Valle is a member of The Hip Society, The Knee Society and The International Hip Society. He previously served as president of both the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, and is currently in the presidential line of The Knee Society.
He has emerged as a prominent voice on the shift of complex joint procedures into ambulatory surgery centers following the Medicare payment rule that took effect in January 2026.
