Brian Hasselfeld, MD

Executive Medical Director, Digital Health and Innovation Johns Hopkins Medicine

Brian Hasselfeld, MD, is executive medical director of digital health and innovation at Johns Hopkins Medicine and associate director of Johns Hopkins Health in Baltimore, the institution’s precision-medicine initiative. He oversees the Office of Telemedicine and virtual-care operations spanning all of Johns Hopkins Medicine, including its hospitals and ambulatory operations across multiple states as well as international, home-care, and insurance lines of business. 

Dr. Hasselfeld led the rapid expansion of telemedicine across the enterprise, building durable virtual-care capabilities at scale. He is an assistant professor of general internal medicine and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and continues to see patients. He earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed combined residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics through Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital. 

Before medicine, Dr. Hasselfeld worked as an investment banking analyst covering technology, media and telecommunications, developing a background that informs his approach to digital strategy. He serves on the board of Johns Hopkins Health Plans’ Medicare Advantage plan and advises several digital health organizations, and he is a certified Epic physician builder. 

Dr. Hasselfeld’s work focuses on integrating virtual care, data, and innovation into everyday clinical operations. He is a recognized national voice on the operational realities of scaling digital health who brings a rare combination of clinical, financial and technical fluency to the field.
