Bradley C. Bond, CFA, CPA, MBA, was appointed Chief Financial Officer in February 2024. In his current role, Mr. Bond is responsible for all financial, treasury, managed care contracting, insurance, revenue cycle, supply chain, and materials management services.
Mr. Bond joined UH in 2002 as Vice President of Treasury. Under his leadership, UH has issued over $5 billion in taxable and tax-exempt public bonds, negotiated over $2 billion notional swap transactions and over $2 billion in bank credit facilities. He also oversaw the investment program with over $3.5 billion in assets under management, including endowment funds, defined benefit pension, and offshore captive insurance company investments. Mr. Bond has also served on the retirement and investment committees of the Parma, Elyria, Portage, Samaritan and Lake Foundation Boards and Southwest General Hospital in Cleveland.
Since May 2011, Mr. Bond served in the role of finance lead for operations involving the System’s community medical centers, encompassing over $1.8 billion in annual revenue; and since January 2015 its community physician group, University Hospitals Medical Practices, comprising over 756 providers and $418 million in annual revenue. Beginning January 2018, Mr. Bond assumed financial responsibility for the UH Ventures business unit, which has grown to $630 million in annual revenue. Over the span of the past 7 years, Mr. Bond has been involved with six successful hospital acquisitions and three joint ventures with private equity firms.
Mr. Bond currently serves as the Chairman of the Medical Center Company Board, a $52 million revenue district energy company which serves UH, CWRU, and other cultural organizations in the University Circle area on the east side of Cleveland. As Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Bond’s leadership is distinguished by his disciplined, systems-based approach to operational and financial restructuring. Under his direction, UH grew operating revenue by 14.6% to $7.3 billion in 2025 while holding expense growth to 8.7%, a critical achievement in an environment marked by inflationary pressure and labor volatility. Central to this success was the establishment of targeted governance structures, including a “revenue cabinet” dedicated solely to ensuring the system is paid fairly and accurately for services rendered. By strengthening documentation, coding accuracy and revenue integrity — supported by Epic optimization — UH achieved stronger-than-expected revenue performance without relying on unnecessary volume growth.
On the cost side, Mr. Bond spearheaded an “expense cabinet” that eliminated approximately $100 million in costs in 2025 by reducing waste, unwinding pandemic-era premium pay practices and improving workforce stability, including reducing nursing turnover. Importantly, these actions were part of a broader, multi-year cultural transformation focused on reconfiguring how UH operates to adapt to persistent industry challenges, rather than short-term cost cutting. In 2024 and 2025, Crain’s Cleveland Business named Mr. Bond a Notable Leader in Finance and Becker’s Healthcare recognized him as a Hospital and Health System CFO to Know and Academic Medical Center CFO to Know. In 2024, Becker’s also recognized Mr. Bond as one of 30 Highly Successful CEO-CFO Duos.
Prior to joining UH, Mr. Bond served as Assistant Treasurer and Senior Treasury Analyst at the Cleveland Clinic. He began his career as a staff accountant and consultant with Ernst & Young LLP. Mr. Bond received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree in Business Administration from CWRU’s Weatherhead School of Management. Mr. Bond is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-non practicing).
