Betty Jo Rocchio is executive vice president and chief nurse executive at Advocate Health, where she has led approximately 42,000 nurses since November 2024.

She previously served as senior vice president and chief nurse executive at Mercy, which she joined in 2013 as vice president of perioperative services and where she later became chief nursing optimization officer.

Earlier, Dr. Rocchio held several leadership positions in the Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio, including system director of surgical services and vice president of nursing and chief nursing officer. She is known for applying technology and analytics to support nursing and clinical teams and improve patient outcomes. During her tenure at Mercy, she co-developed an automated inventory management system to reduce nurse workload and helped the system achieve HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 status through a perioperative dashboard built on Epic data.

She has launched nursing workforce strategies that match staffing to patient demand and, most recently, has focused on artificial intelligence to support the clinical workforce across her priorities of workforce, workflows, and work environment. An accomplished speaker and author, Dr. Rocchio serves on the TELA Bio board, the Medtronic Chief Nurse Advisory Board, and the Careismatic Advisory Board.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, a master’s degree in health sciences from La Roche College, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in the nurse executive track at The Ohio State University.
