Barry Arbuckle, PhD, is executive chairman of MemorialCare Health System, a Southern California nonprofit integrated delivery network, after serving more than two decades as its president and CEO.
He first joined MemorialCare in 1989 and became CEO in 2002, leading the system through a period of significant growth as part of a long-planned leadership succession. Under his leadership, MemorialCare grew into a system of hospitals, hundreds of care sites, and thousands of aligned physicians and employees across Orange County and Los Angeles County.
Dr. Arbuckle has been a national advocate for value-based care, direct-to-employer contracting and affordability reform, and he chairs the MemorialCare Innovation Fund. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University, a master’s degree from Arizona State University, and a PhD from the University of North Carolina.
Dr. Arbuckle is widely recognized as one of the most influential health-system leaders in California. His extensive board service includes past chair of the California Hospital Association, the Integrated Healthcare Association, the Healthcare Leadership Council, and roles with the American Hospital Association and the Bipartisan Policy Center. He has also served on California’s Office of Health Care Affordability advisory committee. His career reflects a sustained focus on improving access, quality and affordability of care.
