Amiethab Aiyer is division chief of foot and ankle surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he is also a professor of orthopaedic surgery and chief of the foot and ankle service at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
His clinical practice centers on complex foot and ankle reconstruction, with expertise in minimally invasive surgery, Achilles tendon management, and advanced techniques in ankle arthroplasty and arthrodesis. He integrates 3D printing and patient-specific instrumentation into his surgical practice and treats patients from across the United States and internationally.
Dr. Aiyer earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Penn State Hershey Medical Center and a fellowship in foot and ankle reconstruction at the Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction in Baltimore, joining the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2021.
He has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and holds editorial leadership roles as deputy editor of JAAOS and editor-in-chief of two current texts. Dr. Aiyer is the founder of Orthomentor, a mentorship platform that provides career guidance and residency application resources to aspiring orthopaedic surgeons, and he serves as director of orthopaedic medical student education at Johns Hopkins.
His contributions have been recognized with induction into the Johns Hopkins Distinguished Teaching Society and the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society Freddie Fu He for She Award. He is a fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Association.
