US looking to fill 600,000 cybersecurity positions

As the U.S. braces for possible cyberattacks from Russia, the country is looking to fill 600,000 cybersecurity positions, Tech Times reported March 30.

President Joe Biden has urged organizations to shore up their cybersecurity defenses as the Russian government may be exploring cyberattack options in connection with the U.S. response to the war in Ukraine., but there is not enough cybersecurity talent.

According to the report, 1 million Americans work in the cybersecurity industry, but 600,000 positions are left unfilled.

Of those 600,000 positions, around 560,000 are in the private sector.

Job openings in the cybersecurity industry have seen a 29 percent increase in 2021, doubling the growth rate between 2018 and 2019.

The increase is being attributed to an increase in cyberattacks due to the large number of people working from home.

According to the report, employees using their home computers and networks have caused an increase in phishing attempts and ransomware attacks for businesses, hospitals, organizations and schools.
