The LockBit ransomware gang posted on its data leak website July 2 that it would leak information stolen from Fairfield (Ill.) Memorial Hospital on July 17 unless it met the group’s demands, according to the July 2 story. Fairfield Memorial, which reported the incident July 3, is a rural, critical-access hospital with 25 beds.

LockBit continues to target hospitals and other healthcare organizations despite the U.S. and U.K. saying they dismantled the group’s operations. Earlier this year, the gang demanded $900,000 from a Chicago safety-net hospital but the facility declined to pay. Becker’s reached out to Fairfield Memorial for comment.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
