Former healthcare exec wrongly accessed PHI of 37,000+ patients after termination

Carrollton, Texas-based Premier Patient Healthcare began notifying 37,636 patients that a former executive wrongfully accessed patients’ health data, according to data the organization shared with the Maine attorney general’s office Oct. 1.

Three details:

  1. Premiere, an accountable care organization, said a former executive and technology vendor obtained and accessed a computer file containing sensitive healthcare information, according to a news release.
  2. The data was improperly accessed in July 2020, after the executive was terminated. The breach was not discovered until April 30, 2021.
  3. The file contained protected health information, such as name, birthdates, Medicare-related information and more. Premier and the vendor are still investigating the breach.
