Kaspersky, a cybersecurity and anti-virus provider, partnered with research firm Opinion Matter to conduct its report, Cyber Pulse: The State of Cybersecurity in Healthcare — Part 2. In total, 1,758 healthcare employees were surveyed. Their positions ranged from physicians and surgeons to administrators to IT staff.
Of the respondents, 15 percent said they did not know what the HIPAA security rule meant. Additionally, 21 percent reported that they were not aware of the cybersecurity policy within their workplace. For the respondents who knew of their cybersecurity policy, 34 percent had only reviewed it once.
Regulation, policy and training were the three main areas that respondents lacked cybersecurity education and awareness. About 19 percent of those surveyed indicated there needed to be more cybersecurity training within their organization.
