Eleven employees will be laid off, more than 25 vacant positions will be eliminated and several current employees’ working hours will be slashed.

Despite faring better than other hospitals in the Pittsburgh area, hospital officials, according to the report, have stated that these cost-cutting measures are necessary because of the current economic climate.

Uniontown hopes that its employees will accept these changes on a voluntary basis, but have stated that the hospital will implement bargaining unit layoffs and work-hour reductions, regardless.
