While the recession has altered some healthcare entities physician recruiting efforts, some compensation for specialty physicians jumped, as urologists showed the biggest percentage increase in income from 2009-10 to 2010-11, according to a Merritt Hawkins report.

Here are the five specialties that showed the highest gain in salary offers from 2009-10 to 2010-11 from Merritt’s “2011 Review of Physician Recruiting Incentives.” The statistics listed are average income offers:

Urology in 2009-10: $400,000
Urology in 2010-11: $453,000
Percent Increase: 13 percent

Internal Medicine in 2009-10: $191,000
Internal Medicine in 2010-11: $205,000
Percent Increase: 7 percent

General Surgery in 2009-10: $314,000
General Surgery in 2010-11: $336,000
Percent Increase: 7 percent

Invasive Cardiology in 2009-10: $495,000
