Study: Physicians in Capitated Environments Had Lower Costs, Intensity of Care

Physicians in highly capitated practice environments had lower risk-adjusted spending per beneficiary and lower intensity of care compared to physicians receiving only productivity payments, according to an article published in Health Services Research.

Researchers studied data from the 2004-2005 Community Tracking Study Physician Survey on PCP compensation methods and data from Medicare on the beneficiaries the physicians served from 2004-2006.
