Oklahoma Bill Would Provide Tax Credit to Physicians for Call Duties

A new bill in the Oklahoma legislature seeks to reduce rural hospitals’ costs for physicians’ on-call duties by giving the physicians a tax credit, according to a report by the Enid (Okla.) News.

On-call physicians would get tax credits of as much as $100 per day or $5,000 for a full weekend at hospitals in communities with fewer than 20,000 people.

A spokeswoman for Woodward Regional Hospital, in a community with 12,000 people, said the tax break would be useful because frequent on-call duties are a factor in its problems with recruiting physicians.
