Some physicians have yet to be paid for work they did in February, and others are owed hundreds and thousands of dollars, the newspaper reports.
The strain is causing some physicians to trim staff, default on rent and ask vendors to delay shipments of drugs. Physicians have indicated that they may be forced to send patients to hospitals for care or even suspend operations.
There are a number of causes for the delay in payment. These include problems with NPI, changes to California claims processing and even slow processing of address changes.
