Jackson Health CEO Carlos Migoya Donates $160k Bonus

Keeping good on a one-year-old promise, Jackson Health System Carlos Migoya has donated his $160,000 bonus to the Jackson Memorial Foundation due to the system's improved financial standing, according to a CBS Miami report.

Last year, Mr. Migoya said if the Miami-based health system saved money through layoffs, he would donate his entire bonus to Jackson's non-profit foundation, which would go toward renovations of Jackson Women's Hospital.

In an interview with Becker's Hospital Review last August, he said: "Unions have said the only reason I've tried to turn this [system] around is for my bonus, when really that was the last thing on my mind. So I said what I'd like to do is turn my bonus over to Jackson for something near and dear to me: the renovation of our labor and delivery rooms."

In the most recent fiscal year, Jackson posted a surplus of $8.2 million, a far cry from the prior year's $81.4 million loss.

According to the CBS Miami report, the renovations to Jackson Women's Hospital, one of the largest birthing centers in the United States, would include updating rooms into private suites and "modernizing other key areas."
