Cardiology was the highest paid physician specialty in 2016, according to Health eCareers' 2016 Salary Guide.

Survey responses for the 2016 Salary Guide were collected from 19,754 healthcare job seekers from the Health eCareers database between Jan. 18 and Feb. 23, 2016.

Here are 12 statistics on average salary by specialty, according to the report.

Physician/surgeon

4. Family medicine — $197,522

Registered nurse

1. Emergency medicine — $69,388

2. Psychiatric/mental health — $64,665

3. Medical/surgical float — $62,675

Nurse practitioner

1. Family medicine — $100,124

2. Women's health/OBGYN — $95,263

Physician assistant

1. Emergency medicine — $113,873

2. Orthopedic — $108,655

3. Family medicine — $98,074
