Integrated Healthcare Strategies surveyed 39 healthcare organizations, which represent about 500 employed and independently contracted medical oncologists. Here are five key observations from the survey.
• Guaranteed base salaries for medical oncologists were more common under full hospital employment arrangements rather than professional services agreements.
• More than three-quarters of organizations that provided a salary or stipend for administrative services also employed the medical oncologists.
• About 70 percent of medical oncologists who received total work RVU credit for infusion services were also employed.
• Compensation for infusion services supervision was mostly determined by different types of WRVU credit structures.
• Base salaries and hourly rates were the most common forms of compensation for advanced practice clinicians in the field.
