Colleen Blye — (Catholic Health Initiatives, Denver). Ms. Blye was named senior vice president of finance and treasury and CFO in January for 78-hospital CHI. Ms. Blye joined CHI in 1989 and previously served as vice president of financial services. Before that she was CFO for St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, Pa. Her first job in healthcare finance was as an auditor with Ernst & Young in Philadelphia.
Kevin Brennan — (Geisinger Health System, Danville, Pa.). Mr. Brennan is executive vice president and CFO at Geisinger and is treasurer of the Geisinger Foundation. Mr. Brennan previously served as CFO of the Penn State Geisinger Health System and, before joining Geisinger, as regional vice president of finance and vice president of managed care with the Franciscan Health System with responsibilities covering eight hospitals and affiliates in its Mid-Atlantic Region. He earlier served as vice president of finance for several hospitals and holds an MBA in healthcare and a bachelor’s in business administration, both from LaSalle University in Philadelphia.
Larry Cash — (Community Health Systems, Brentwood, Tenn.). Mr. Cash is Community’s CFO and executive vice president. Mr. Cash has won Institutional Investor magazine’s top healthcare CFO for four consecutive years. Mr. Cash, who has more than 30 years of healthcare financial experience, joined CHS in 1997. He spent 23 years at Humana and previously held senior level positions with HCA and PricewaterhouseCoopers and earned his bachelors in accounting from the University of Kentucky at Lexington.
Michael Cottrell — (Hospital Sisters Health System, Springfield, Ill.). Mr. Cottrell was named CFO at the 13-hospital HSHS in February. Mr. Cottrell previously served as senior vice president and CFO for Bon Secours Health System, Marriottsville, Md.
Ron Farr — (Jewish Hospital and St. Mary’s HealthCare, Louisville, Ky.). Mr. Farr joined Jewish and St. Mary’s as senior vice president and CFO in Dec. 2008. Before joining Jewish, Mr. Farr served since 1996 as CFO at 13-hospital Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center, an integrated health system in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Centura Health in Denver.
Larry Hudson — (Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, W.Va.). Mr. Hudson is executive vice president and CFO at CAMC. Mr. Hudson joined CAMC in 1999 and previously held the same titles with Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Fla. Mr. Hudson earned a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting and finance from the State University of West Georgia in 1971.
Catherine Jacobson — (Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, Ill.). Ms. Jacobson is CFO and treasurer at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Ms. Jacobson, whose career at Rush began in 1996, previously served as vice president for program evaluation, assistant to the president and chief compliance officer for Rush before being named acting CFO in 2002. She previously served as vice president for finance for Rush Prudential Health Plans. Ms. Jacobson is chairman elect for the Healthcare Financial Management Association. She earned a bachelors in accounting from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.
Milton Johnson — (HCA, Nashville, Tenn.). Mr. Johnson is executive vice president and CFO for privately held HCA, who logged $28 billion in revenue in 2008 at its 163 hospitals and 105 ASCs in 20 states and the United Kingdom. Mr. Johnson joined HCA in 1982 as tax manager and served as director of tax for HCA predecessor company, Health Trust, which spun off from HCA in 1987. He returned to HCA as vice president-tax in 1995. Prior to joining HCA, Mr. Johnson, who earned his bachelors degree in accounting from Belmont University in Nashville, worked for Ernst & Young.
Phyllis Lantos — (New York-Presbyterian Hospital, New York City, N.Y.). Ms. Lantos is executive vice president, treasurer and CFO at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Ms. Lantos joined the system in 2000 as senior vice president and CFO and was named executive vice president in 2007. She previously served as deputy chief operating officer at Yale University School of Medicine and as vice president of financial management services at Montefiore Medical Center. Ms. Lantos earned both her undergraduate and masters degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Ralph Lawson — (Baptist Health South Florida, Coral Gables, Fla.). Mr. Lawson is executive vice president and CFO for five-hospital Baptist Health South Florida and has nearly 30 years of healthcare financial experience. Mr. Lawson previously served with Catholic Health Services and was a partner with Deloitte. Mr. Lawson, who joined Baptist Health in 1989, earned his bachelors from the University of Colorado School of Business and his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Lawson is a national director of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He is also chairman of the board of Catholic Health Services in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Peter Markell — (Partners Healthcare System, Boston). Mr. Markell is vice president of finance and CFO at Partners Healthcare System in Boston, which he joined in 1999. He previously served as a partner for Ernst & Young.
Peter McCanna — (Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Chicago). Mr. McCanna is executive vice president administration and CFO for Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and its subsidiary, Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Mr. McCanna joined Northwestern in 2002 and held similar titles with Presbyterian Healthcare Services in Albuquerque, N.M. Before that he was senior vice president and CFO with University of Colorado Hospital. Mr. McCanna earned his masters degree from the University of Texas in Austin.
Lori Mitchell — (Harborview Medical Center, Seattle). Ms. Mitchell has been senior administrator for finance and CFO since 1998 at 413-bed Harborview, a regional trauma and academic medical center owned by King County and managed by the University of Washington. Prior to serving Harborview she served as regional administrator and CFO for PacifiCare Health Systems and was a past board member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Ms. Mitchell earned her bachelors degree from Oregon State University.
Matthew Muhart — (South Broward Hospital District, South Florida). Mr. Mulhart is senior vice president and CFO at South Broward Hospital District, part of the public Memorial Healthcare System based in South Florida.
Dominick Nakis — (Advocate Health Care, Oak Brook, Ill.). Mr. Nakis is CFO, senior vice president of finance and treasurer at Advocate. Mr. Nakis previously served as vice president of finance and corporate controller since 1995, when EHS Health Care merged with Lutheran General Health Systems to form Advocate. Before the merger he served as EHS Health Care’s vice president of finance and corporate controller. Mr. Nakis began his career at the former Ernst & Ernst, later Ernst & Young. Mr. Nakis earned his bachelors degree in accounting from the University of Illinois and his MBA from DePaul University in Chicago.
Richard Rothberger — (Scripps Health, San Diego). Mr. Rothberger, who has logged 30 years of healthcare financial experience, is corporate executive vice president and CFO for Scripps, a position he assumed in 2001. Before joining Scripps he was senior vice president and CFO for Mercy Healthcare Sacramento, part of Catholic Healthcare West. Mr. Rothberger earned his masters in industrial engineering/health systems from Northeastern University.
Terry Shaw — (Adventist Health System, Winter Park, Fla.). Mr. Shaw is CFO for Adventist. Mr. Shaw held similar financial titles with the Florida division of Adventist and before that served Florida Hospital as vice president, assistant vice president and director of DRG Management. Mr. Shaw earned his MBA from the University of Central Florida.
Anthony Speranzo — (Ascension Health, St. Louis, Mo.). Mr. Speranzo is senior vice president and CFO at Ascension Health Care. Prior to joining Ascension in 2002, Mr. Speranzo served as managing director of U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray in Newport Beach, Calif., and was vice president and manager of corporate finance for investment banker John Nuveen & Co. in Irvine, Calif. Before that he served a variety of posts with St. Joseph Health System in Orange, Calif. Mr. Speranza earned his bachelor’s in economics from the University of Massachusetts and his masters in finance from Suffolk University, both in Boston.
Bert Zimmerli — (Intermountain Healthcare, Salt Lake City). Mr. Zimmerli was named senior vice president and CFO in 2003 for Intermountain Healthcare. Mr. Zimmerli held similar titles previously with Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston. Mr. Zimmerli earned an MBA from the University of Wisconsin.
