Minot, N.D.-based Trinity Health will not return clinical or administrative services to its St. Joseph’s Hospital following a Jan. 3 mechanical incident at the facility, President and CEO John Kutch said in a message shared with Becker’s.
The health system relocated services to the downtown Minot facility after the incident to ensure safety, then conducted a broader evaluation of the building as part of its long-term facility strategy.
“Based on this thorough review, and consistent with our multi-year care delivery plan, Trinity Health will not return clinical or administrative services to the St. Joseph’s location,” Mr. Kutch said.
Services formerly housed at St. Joseph’s have been redistributed across Trinity Health facilities, which Mr. Kutch said are better equipped to support modern care delivery and future growth.
As part of the transition, inpatient rehabilitation and health information management have moved to Trinity Health Hospital on the Healthcare Campus and Medical District, financial services and Dot’s Uniform Shop have relocated to Trinity Health Medical Arts and mailroom operations shifted to Trinity Health at Elk Drive.
Adult and adolescent inpatient psychiatry services are temporarily paused as Trinity renovates the space to meet updated safety and regulatory standards. Adult services are expected to resume following renovations, while planning continues for adolescent services.
During the transition, behavioral health and emergency department teams will coordinate care, with some patients referred to regional partners for specialized services, Mr. Kutch said.
The move also aligns with Trinity Health’s strategy to further develop its Healthcare Campus and Medical District as a central hub for care delivery, with future expansion plans underway, he added.
Trinity Health said it is also exploring options for the future of the St. Joseph’s building with local and regional partners.
