The hospital cited multiple reasons for the closure, including a waning number of deliveries and the departure of multiple OB-GYN physicians.

Two OB-GYNs recently announced their plans to leave St. Joseph. A group of OB-GYNs with offices at the hospital is also relocating to Kansas.

In a statement, St. Joseph CEO Robert Erickson noted the hospital will instead invest in emergency services, neurosurgery, orthopedics, obesity treatment and cardiovascular, pulmonary, spine and wound care.
