Hospital officials cited low demand as the reason for the service line closure. In 2022, the hospital delivered 70 babies. This year, its on pace to deliver 38.

Patients can still receive prenatal obstetric care from local physicians, though they’ll be required to deliver at one of four hospitals within an hour’s drive from Perry County Memorial Hospital.

The hospital’s emergency department will still handle emergency deliveries, and no employees are expected to be laid off in the service line closure.
