West Bloomfield, Mich.-based Henry Ford Behavioral Health Hospital is the latest mental health hospital to open in the state.
The 192-bed facility opened Jan. 21. The 120,000-square-feet building sits on a 15-acre lot and houses evidence-based care for adolescents, adults and older adults needing acute behavioral health care, according to a March 24 story posted on the American Medical Association website.
“We’re just getting started,” Deepak Prabhakar, MD, a psychiatrist and chair of psychiatry and behavioral health medicine at Henry Ford Health, told the AMA. “This hospital is not just a place—it’s a movement toward a better future for mental health care in our communities.”
The hospital offers inpatient behavioral services for mood disorders, thought disorders, dual diagnosis and substance-use conditions. It provides treatments including dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, recreational therapy, physical wellness programs and family therapy.
The hospital is also an academic training site and plans to train more than 120 nursing students, 12 psychiatric residents and multiple social work interns annually.
