The LA Fire Department responded to the hospital around 11:45 p.m. Aug. 21 with 20 ambulances and 104 personnel to help carry critical patients down stairs to waiting ambulances, since elevators were non-operational.
About 30 patients were “deemed critical” and removed via ambulance to another hospital, the department said. The other patients, about 211 all together, were moved to different buildings on the campus.
In the midst of the evacuation, a baby was born, the department said. Mother and baby are reported to be doing well, but no other details were provided by hospital officials.
The cause of the outage is unclear, but may be related to a heavy rain storm in the region, the report said.
