Study Finds Heart Care in Rural Hospitals Equal to Care in Urban Hospitals

A study published in the American Journal of Cardiology found that patients with heart problems treated in rural hospitals had similar outcomes to those treated in urban hospitals, according to a report by ABC News.

The study followed outcomes of more than 350,000 patients at nearly 550 hospitals over eight years and found that patients at rural and urban hospital had similar quality of care and survival odds, according to the report.

Among the urban hospitals 4.5 percent of patients studied died, compared to 5.7 percent of patients studied at rural hospitals. However, when the researchers accounted for other factors such as age and pre-existing health issues, no significant difference in the percent of death was found.
