Dr. Jeff Robbins killed in cycling accident

Cincinnati-based Jeff Robbins, PhD, was killed in a vehicle collision while cycling Aug. 20, The Enquirer reported.

Investigators say a juvenile driver was involved and stayed on scene. No further reports have been released.

Dr. Robbins is considered the "father of cardiac transgenesis" by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center's Heart Institute. His work led to the development of reagents, chemical substances used to detect other substances. 

The 71-year-old published over 250 peer-reviewed scientific articles before retiring in 2019. For his contributions, he received the Presidential Award from the International Society of Heart Research and the Research Achievement Award from the American Heart Association.

Dr. Robbins is survived by his wife and two sons.
