Catholic Health's $70 million neighborhood hospital in Lewiston, N.Y., will open its doors to patients Oct. 10, The Buffalo News reported. 

Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare is planning to construct a new facility for its Tampa-based St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, marking its fourth new hospital project in the past five years. 

Illinois regulators gave Decatur-based HSHS St. Mary's Hospital approval for an $89 million project that would modernize the hospital's facilities but cut the number of beds, the Herald & Review reported Oct. 3. 

Louisville, Ky.-based UofL Health has started the process of fully opening the new emergency department at its Shepherdsville facility, according to a WAVE3 Oct. 3 report.

Mercy Hospital Springfield (Mo.) is to break ground Oct. 6 on a new emergency department close to its existing rehab facility, according to an Oct. 1 Springfield News-Leader report.

Pittsburgh-based UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation received an $8 million donation, its largest gift to date from an individual.

Hospitals in Arkansas, California, Minnesota, Massachusetts and New York all recently received the largest donations in their history.

Edgewood, Ky.-based St. Elizabeth Healthcare is building a new $125 million hospital in Greendale, Ind., local radio station 99.3FM reported Oct. 3. 

Memphis, Tenn.-based St. Jude Children's Research Hospital opened The Domino's Village, a $110 million, 140-room apartment building for cancer patients and their families, CoStar CoStar News reported Oct. 2.

The former CEO of Richmond-based VCU Health long lobbied against a now abandoned $325 million capital project and faced internal opposition from the health system as he did so, according to an Oct. 2 Richmond BizSense report.
