Vanir Construction Management outbid seven other firms for the $48.3 million, 6.5-year contract to replace the medical center and select outpatient health clinics.

Voters approved a proposition to issue bonds for the project in 2014. Officials said the plan includes updating the Maricopa Medical Center and replacing 11 of the health system’s 13 family health clinics. The plan also recommends consolidating the health system’s two behavioral health units.

Officials expect to open the updated medical center by 2021, according to the report.
