The 36,000-square-foot addition to the Johns Hopkins Medicine subsidiary would extend two stories and be built next to the emergency department. Project additions include an ED entrance, triage and waiting areas, as well as a first floor observation unit and a second floor psychiatric unit. Proposed renovations to approximately 18,000 square feet of space include a 25-bed general unit for overnight patients and families.
Steve Snelgrove, hospital president, said “The community needs more hospital space and more resources to continue providing the high-quality healthcare that residents deserve,” according to Baltimore Business Journal. “This project will do just that.”
Howard County General is looking to garner board approval for the project, with the hospital’s foundation running a campaign to raise necessary funds.
If approval is granted, construction is set to begin early next year, with the project spanning three years. The hospital would remain operational throughout the construction period.
