Nashville, Tenn.-based Ascension Saint Thomas, part of St. Louis-based Ascension, said May 15 it plans to build a new full-service hospital in Clarksville, Tenn., and expand a comprehensive health system in the area.

The facility, located on 96 acres, will anchor a growing, community-centered health system in Clarksville, according to an Ascension Saint Thomas news release.

The hospital will include 44 inpatient beds, with capacity to expand to 132 beds.

Additional components of the $148.5 million hospital and health system project include:

  • Emergency care, inpatient surgery, cardiology, oncology, women’s health, neonatal intensive care, orthopedics and other specialties.
  • Outpatient surgery, advanced imaging and other ambulatory and outpatient services.
  • Space to expand services as community needs grow.

Ascension Saint Thomas emphasized expanded access as a driver for the project.

“We believe in access to high-quality healthcare, and this new health system ensures our neighbors in Clarksville have a future choice of healthcare providers in the community to receive the care they need,” Fahad Tahir, president and CEO of Ascension Saint Thomas, said in the release.

Ascension Saint Thomas employs more than 13,000 people across 300 care sites in Tennessee, including 14 care locations and affiliated physicians in the Clarksville area.

The proposed campus is pending state approval. Ascension Saint Thomas has submitted a certificate-of-need application, which will undergo formal review by the Tennessee Health Facilities Commission, including a public hearing scheduled for July 25.
