In May, Milford Hospital ended its obstetrical labor and delivery service because it was not financially profitable. In September, the Office of Healthcare Access officially approved Milford’s decision to shut it down.

The hospital has since begun leasing out space to Yale-New Haven for its rehabilitation center.

The rehabilitation center at Milford Hospital will treat patients from Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Hospital and Bridgeport (Conn.) Hospital, which is part of the Yale-New Haven Health System. The center mainly serves those who have suffered traumatic injuries and strokes, as well as surgical patients with neurological deficits. Through the agreement, Yale-New Haven also contracts with Milford for a few services, including diagnostic, laboratory and imaging.

However, Milford Hospital will remain independent and is not affiliated with Yale-New Haven Health System.
