The cost of your daily Starbucks just went up 10-20 cents

Starbucks raised the price of coffee across most of its 8,000-plus cafes in America this week, according to The Wall Street Journal.

All sizes of brewed coffee will now be about 10  to 20 cents more expensive. A 12-ounce "tall" cup of brewed coffee will sell for about for $1.95 to $2.15. Outside of the brewed coffee, most of Starbucks' other beverages have not seen a price increase.

Starbucks evaluates pricing on a product-by-product and market-by-market basis, a company spokesperson told WSJ. Starbucks saw its store operating expenses climb 9 percent during the first half of this fiscal year when compared to the first half of last year, and its sales costs were up 13 percent year over year.

The spokesperson noted the increase is not related to Starbucks' decision to close nearly all of its stores for antibias training for employees on May 29. The training was a response to an April 11 incident at a Philadelphia Starbucks, where two black men were arrested for trespassing as they waited for a friend.
