California commits to 100% carbon-free power by 2045

California Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill setting a goal for the state to have 100 percent clean energy by 2045, according to Fortune.

The law requires the state to get 60 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030, raised from its previous goal of 50 percent.

“California is committed to doing whatever is necessary to meet the existential threat of climate change,” said Mr. Brown. “This bill, and others I will sign this week, help us go in that direction. But have no illusions, California and the rest of the world have miles to go before we achieve zero-carbon emissions.”

The bill was signed ahead of the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco Sept. 12, co-chaired by Mr. Brown, where business leaders and politicians will gather to address pressing climate change issues.
