The “Answer Updates” feature, which customers will be able to enable through an opt-in process, will send users an on-device notification when Alexa learns an answer to a question the user had previously asked. In Alexa’s own words, with the feature: “if you ask me a question and I don’t know the answer, but I find out later, I’ll notify you.”

In the past, if a user asked Alexa a question it did not know the answer to, the device would respond with “I don’t know that, but I’m always learning,” or “I can’t find the answer to the question I heard,” among other comments.

However, the new tool will enable users to take advantage of Knowledge Graph, Alexa’s growing informational database of facts and figures.

“The Alexa service is getting smarter every day, and Answer Updates is just another way we’re continuing to expand Alexa’s Knowledge Graph,” an Amazon spokesperson told TechCrunch.

Amazon confirmed the feature to TechCrunch after it was spotted by Voicebot.ai Aug. 6.
