Amazon has scooped up 30 execs from Microsoft since 2015: 5 things to know

Amazon has hired more executives from Microsoft than any competitor in recent years, according to CNBC.

Here are five things to know:

1. From 2015 to 2017, Amazon hired at least 30 director or higher-level executives directly from Microsoft, according to the website Paysa.

2. Google sent five executives to Amazon in the same time period, the second most among tech competitors.

3. Microsoft received the most outgoing Amazon executives, with nine moving from Amazon to Microsoft between 2015 and 2017. Six moved from Amazon to Google.

4. Microsoft has developed a reputation for training top talent, similar to how IBM was considered an excellent recruiting pool for decades. "Microsoft is a very well-known place to get a pool of reliable people that you know are going to be pretty good," Tom Lee, PhD, a professor at Seattle-based University of Washington, told CNBC.

5. Employee satisfaction with salary has declined in recent years at Microsoft, and part of the appeal of Amazon is its perceived position as a disruptor. "Amazon is seen as more exciting, more at the edge — the creative innovator that has disrupted every market," Michael Useem, PhD, a professor at the Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, told CNBC.
