During the next three to five years, providers will see an increase in the number of AI solutions entering the healthcare industry, such as AI-powered wearables and tools related to diagnostic decisions, according to the report. However, the AMA noted it does not have a policy in place related to AI.
“This report proposes baseline policy to guide AMA’s engagement with a broad cross-section of stakeholders and policymakers to ensure that the perspective of physicians in various practice settings informs and influences the dialogue as this technology develops,” the report reads.
The report outlines suggested tasks for the AMA, such as setting priorities for healthcare AI, integrating the perspective of practicing physicians into the technology’s development and implementation, and promoting greater understanding of the potential and limitations of AI across the industry, among other recommendations.
