Bryan Thomas was treated at Boston Children’s Hospital last June for arteriovenous malformation after a vein burst in his brain, causing massive swelling and bleeding. The aneurysm initially paralyzed Bryan on his left side.
“I like to think of my aneurysm as if my doctors and I were in a room with a ticking atomic bomb,” Bryan told local reporters, “and they were the ones who diffused the bomb.”
After numerous surgeries and a month of rehabilitation, Bryan returned home with only weakness in his left arm and some vision loss. Now, he is doing what he can to repay the hospital and the physicians who treated him, according to the report.
Bryan signed up for the Eversource Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital, which takes place June 12, and set a fundraising goal of $27,000, which he has nearly reached. Half of the proceeds he raises will go directly to arteriovenous malformation research and the young man’s team of physicians.
